Hello all! This is just to ask if why my betta seems to have blue-white over her eyes lately. She currently lives in a five gallon tank with just her and a snail. I've heard cloudy-eye is usually caused by poor water quality. I tested it with API master test kit just to be sure! 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 10ppm of nitrate. My PH at my place of living has always been remarkably high, and she tested at over 8. I wanted to use PH down, but multiple people on here have heavily scolded me for using PH in my larger fish tank so I decided against it. She's always lived in this water anyway, and I've heard PH for bettas is more about stability than lowering or raising.
Can a consistently high PH cause slow eye damage? If so, should I use PH down?
The only thing her water is treated with is water conditioner and calcium, for the snail.
The only other variable I can think of that has changed in the last couple of weeks is her lighting. Her built-in lights went out so I ordered her new ones. I like lights nice and bright so I turned it up high, but after a few days she started having the white so I turned it wayyyyy down just to be sure. Her light is currently so mild you can hardly tell the lights are on XD but I wanted to make sure not to hurt her first and foremost. Could overly bright lighting cause eye damage? Is it reversible?
NOTE: she is not a dragon scale betta and is not susceptible to diamond eye.
She has no other symptoms. Has had cloudy eyes for weeks. Happy, greets me daily, eats all of her food, no swimming problems or scratching.
I've heard age can also cause this problem but she's max two years old. Any ideas? Thank you!!
