Clint Is A Happy Fish.

Clint (veiltail betta) loves his ten gallon and it shows, I love watching him swim his little heart out. But he is being mean to the corys. He will flare his gills at one of them and push them, but doesn't seem to be attacking as so much just showing them who is boss. Of course the cory in question will dart off and Clint doesn't chase, he just swims away. Today I bought a new 20 gallon and will test it for leaks and then set it up, for the corys. Clint will have his ten gallon all to his little lonesome. Since the ten is already cycled I figure on using the sponge filter out of it to seed the 20g. Maybe even take a few of the silk plants and decorations, fake logs and such. My question is will this be enough to help seed the new 20 gallon tank? Because I don't plan on using anything out of the HOB filter.

Thanks for the quick reply.... I well use some of the old water, but I have heard that the bacteria is more in the stuff in the tank, not so much in the water, but I could be wrong.

Use stability or apI quick start worked for one of my tanks

Also Clint was just showing his dominance almost like flexing I don’t think he would hurt the Corys

I agree, he hasn't even tried to bite them, most of the time he even hangs out with them, swimming just above, and acting as if he is paroling the area in a protective sense.

You should see a betta try to chase off a 7" pleco. Its hilarious.

They are a good source of amusement, relaxation, and darn right fun.

Beneficial bacteria doesn't exist in the water column. It grows on solid surfaces. You can put the filter for the 20 gallon in the 10 gallon tank and let it run for about a week and then put it over in the 20g. Or you can put a part of your 10g's filter in with the new 20 gallon filter, but they need to have contact or at least be very close. You can also use substrate from your 10g. Either way, it'll take at least a week for your new filter to be seeded and I wouldn't add too many fish during this time and I definitely recommend keeping a close eye on your water perameters. Good luck!

What cories do you have?
IMO, cories don’t have a place in 10 gallon tanks.

The sponge filter has been in the 10 gallon for around a month now, this was in there during the cycle period. So I plan on using it to seed the new 20 gallon tank.

I have learned this from good people like you on fishlore, so I am setting up a new 20 gallon for them, and then later a 55 gallon (in the near future).
