Cleaning ornaments

I've just newly restocked with 6 new minnows bringing me to a grand total of 7. If all goes well over next 6/8 weeks I would like to add some shrimp. I read that they need hidey holes and I have some ornaments that would fit the bill. I haven't used these ones for some time so I'm wondering how best to clean them. They're nothing fancy, basic fish store plastic decorations.

What is the best way of cleaning these so they are clean and safe to go back in?

It depends on what is making them dirty.

Or put it another way, what do you wish to remove?

It's just that they've been stored for some time and I don't think I gave them much of a clean at the time. I don't want to be introducing anything nasty with the decs.

When I get new decorations/take decorations out of storage, I usually just rinse them off really well, then rinse them in boiling water, wait for them to cool down then rinse again before adding them to the tank.

I just clean them with hot water and a toothbrush.
