Hi, I'm going to be shutting my Freshwater tank down soon ready for it to be salt water. I have the money ready for the live rock, live sand and rodi/salt water. I need to know is there anything I should do to compete clean all the piping or should I buy new piping for my canister filter. Il be removing everything from my canister filter and deep cleaning everything. What would people suggest I do to deep clean it all. Should I run it with water and any chemicals in? Also what would you suggest for me to put in my 3 baskets of my canister filter?

If you are changing over to salt water, can I ask if you have ever used copper in your fresh water tank as you will be using the same filter while you have said you will be giving it a good clean. Copper can remain on certain objects and is very damaging to salt water aquariums so maybe do some research if you have used it to see if the amount that you have used would impact your converted salt water tank. I know products are available to remove copper, but I just thought I would forward this to you as a precaution. Good luck with your new salt water set up. I do love them and would love to do this myself but I will stick with tropical I would probably stuff up salt water and would hate to harm fish

You can get a set of the long brushes they sell to clean out the hoses. In the canister I would put live rock rubble in the bottom, carbon in the middle and filter pads on top.
