Cleaning Filter With Python

Hello, I use a python that goes directly into my sink to do water changes in my tank. I know I am supposed to squeeze out my sponge in tank water every month. Would placing the sponge under my faucet be adequate to clean it? Or is there a better way to clean my filter sponge with python. thank you for any help.

You could just scoop out some water out of the tank in a container and use that. Even a butter bowl would work.

You squeeze it in tank water so that you DONT rinse it out in tap water, which will theoretically kill off your BB.

you can just rinse it as the old tank water is being drained out with the python at the sink (make sure the tap is off).

Get a new beach pail, depot bucket or mop bucket and take a gallon or so of tank water unplug your filter and dump the entire contents in the bucket then the reusable items like the sponges and the ceramic media swish it around for a minute give it a few squeezes reinsert in the same order it came out of your filter and your good to go and depending on your stock, tank size, and size of filter and water change schedule some times you can get more time out of cleaning your filter. Presponges on the intake help as well but be sure to have a net under it when you pull it off the intake cause that's when the suction stops and it releases the "muck". Good luck!!
