clean tank Help

    help please i know how to clean a gravel tank but am wondering i have never done a sand tank is it still the same way with the tank vac, its due for its first clean tomorrow.

    Just wave the siphon tube above the sand and the debris wil float up to be sucked away. Stuff doesn't get down in the sand like it does in gravel.

    I have sand and what I do is gently stir it up with my hand to release any trapped gasses, this in turn stirs up the top layer of debris, then I just siphon about 1 inch from the sand and it cleans it quite nicely, sand is a great substrate, best of luck with it :)

    - it can sometimes be advised to turn off your filter for the time that you are stirring up your sand until you are finished siphoning as sand can get sucked into your filter and cause the propeller shaft damage!

    Too, something you may want to consider having on hand, if you do not already have one, is a Turkey Baster, a new one. They are great for sucking up detritus/poo here and there. :)
