Clean A Turkey Baster?

I wasn’t sure if the material of the turkey baster (type of plastic) mattered. It didn’t seem so, as I couldn’t find anything regarding this, so I bought a cheap one at the grocery yesterday. The baster had a sticker at the top and it came off without residue. So far I just rinsed it off, and sucked up some tap water to rinse the inside. I haven’t used it yet.

How does everyone clean their baster? Should I put it through the dishwasher and then rinse it before first use? Or would the rinsing suffice? Do you just rinse it in tank water or tap water after?

Should I have gotten a better one? Or one made from glass?

Thanks!

Putting in the dishwasher will pose risk of putting chemicals, like detergent, into the tank.

Hot water and maybe a vinegar solution will do the trick.

Just don’t use the baster when cooking.

Thanks! Don’t worry - it’s a dedicated “fish tank baster”.

To update, I’ve had no issues with this $2 plastic baster. I just rinse it in tap water when I’m done if it was a dirty job.
