Good evening,

The classroom aquarium is doing fine. I tested this am and the water perameters looked great. The fish are all swimming fine and eating. Here is a picture

Everything is going well. I am not accustomed to using declorinator as I have well water at home. I am sure when the students come next week, they will love the aquarium

Cool tank... Spanish Class? haha... are those neon tetras? I'd go for live plants if you can... they are so much cooler I think.

Yes they are neon tetras, They are really small right now but the black sand really makes their colors pop. I have real plants in 2 of my aquariums at home but they can be more work. I doubt if I will get them for this tank because plants are higher maintenance than I want to do at school.

Hello; I did clasroom tank setups a number of times over my teaching career. I often did breeding setups with zebra danioes for the biology and general science classes. We could study the development of the eggs and newly hatched fry under scopes. I also did a breeding setup of a pair of albino kribensis a couple of times.
I eventually stopped doing classroom setups due to some very negative things that occured. I stopped with the kribensis when it became obivious that some KY students who asked for young fish to take to their home tanks were typically teenage cruel. I found a number of fry dead in the water fountain near my classroom one afternoon. Placed so that I was sure to see them as I left.
The last issue was in Brunswick County NC. I took a teaching position after retiring from KY. I had to move my fish and set them up in the classroom as the room I rented when first arriving did not allow pets. Before the first term was over all my fish were dead from things being put into the water. I made the mistake of letting them know that the fish were my personal fish some of which I had raised for many years.
Good luck and may you have a much better experience.

I have the 'no pescar' sign in my goldfish tank as well

Skjl47, that is absolutely horrible! I'm so sorry:console: If I was in your class, I would have treated your fish as well as I could have

Skjl47. That is my concern too. I will watch it closely and if anything happens. They will come home immediately

Just an update, the kids absoultely love the fish. They are high schoolers and haven't had aquariums in their classrooms since elementary school. They are a bit concerned that the neon tetras are small but I asured them that they will grow. No fish deaths, Water parameters are excelent.
