I bought 3 more girls last night for my sorority. I must've spent 45 minutes looking at each one and narrowing it down. I ended up with 2 crowntails and a veiltail, that puts me at 8 so far. I'm in love with bettas, not sure I'll go back to many other fish because of their personalities. They remind me a lot of the goldfish I used to have personality wise.

It depends on his personality of course but I would think the CPD's, cories and shrimp would be fine. Mine are in with cories and rummy nose tetras and a couple of platy girls who are just living out their life.

I guess I could try it! What temp do you think I should set it on. Right now it's about 76-77.

Ok I'll up it a degree or so. I think he'll like the 20 long! Hopefully no one will fight or get eaten!

My guppies were having "mysterious" bites out of their tails that I know the girls were inflicting so I moved them all out to a 7g yellow shrimp tank. Its just the four of them.

I'd love to put him in my 12 gal cherry/Malawa shrimp tank because it sits on the end table by my chair in the living room ... but I don't want him to snack on all of my shrimps!

Although I do have at least 2 berried cherries right now! So hopefully my tank will be good and stocked soon!

Went to the LFS today and ended up buying my first salt setup! It's a 29 gallon bio cube with upgraded pump, test kit and auto top off thing. It's used but seems to be in great condition and she said the pump was pretty new and the guy only had it set up for a little while then got sick and had to tear it down. It needs to be cleaned but then it's good to go! All of that was only $250! I also took some platies and guppies in for credit and just put it on a gift card so I can start saving for the salt setup! It'll be a while til I'll be able to set it up but I'm super excited about it! I want to set up a tank with live rock, corals, fish and inverts. I've got lots of researching to do!

I also picked up another CPD and a pea puffer! I knew the CPD was tiny but the pea puffer is so cute!!!! I can't wait to get them all in their new homes! I'll be moving the betta over to the 20L and sticking the pea puffer in the gallon betta tank for now. I also plan to quarantine the CPD.

How long should I give it before moving it to the 20L with the rest?

Nelson, the Betta, is happily exploring the 20 ... the CPD have started coming out more and I've even seen them eating since giving them some frozen food and Cobalt food that was included in the new tank! I also left the fancy guppy. He's pretty shy and doesn't swim well and has been pretty content in the 20. So far he and Nelson haven't seemed to notice each other. I'm keeping a close eye on them though and will move the guppy at the first sign of problem.

I also have a couple new batches of guppy fry in the 29 grow out! I have several females that look like they could pop so I'm not sure who is having them but I have seen fry at 2-3 different sizes!

congrats! your boy is stunning *-* just keep an eye out, once he's comfortable in the tank things might turn, but if you're vigilant, nothing too bad will happen.

Yes, I'm constantly watching to make sure everyone is ok! I spend lots of time gazing at this tank. They seem to stay on opposite sides for the most part ... its funny ... guppy back left to middle, CPD back middle, betta usually on the right although he will cruise the tank now and then and cories mostly along the front although they do spread out some also. Everyone has their spot.

Just thought I'd mention I had the sorority for over a month before chunks started disappearing out of my guppy tails!

I gave most of them away and put the remaining three in my 7g cube.

And I moved the guppy yesterday after noticing a little chunk out of his tail ... oh well ... I was hoping they'd get along but I'm not willing to let them peck any longer.

Today I was going to do a quick water change on the 38 and ended up moving the fish and completely draining the tank, removing and replanting plants and cleaning the canister! I forgot to take a before pic but I did one after pulling about half the plants. It was very overgrown and had been neglected ... I'm hoping it is now suitable for a couple juvie angels in the coming months.

Also ... this means I'll have some plants to list in the for sale area!

Look at all that gunk that was in the gravel!

Wow, turned out nice!

Thanks! It took several hours beginning to end ... and I did get distracted along the way ... lol

Got a question about one of my tetras I moved over to the QT. She's just hanging out on the bottom (mostly bare) but still upright. She CAN swim up and around some but then quickly sinks back down. Like her float mechanism isn't working. I'm worried if this is something that can be treated or fixed. I did 2 20ish % water changes today just to see if maybe it was a water quality issue. They are in there with a seeded sponge filter with Matrix inside and live plants. 5 tetras, 2 swordtails and the fancy guppy. 10 gallon. They've been in there about 24 hours now.

So I topped off the 20L last night with about a gallon of cold water to hopefully trigger spawning and it did the trick! This morning they were spawning away! I had removed about 20 eggs then noticed a female carrying a load of eggs. We had to leave for an appt so I was watching her closely waiting for her to drop them somewhere. It took her forever! She finally dropped the entire ball of eggs on top of a small filter I have on the back wall. Once I gathered all the eggs off the filter and threw few on the nearby thermometer, I ran out of the house. When I got back I counted and I think I have about 56 eggs! Eek! She was carrying a bunch! I've got 7 corries in that tank currently, and am hoping they decide to spawn some more. Probably not though. Here's hoping these guys make it. I've been having problems getting them matured.

Well about 3 days after the first batch of Cory eggs I got another batch of about 85! All but about 4 hatched and I haven't counted but I have a ton of babies! And get this, about 3-4 days after the 85, I got ANOTHER batch of eggs but several were non viable and the rest left is a much smaller amount. They are still cooking but I expect a few babies in the next couple days! These cories are going to town! bizaliz3 does this sound familiar?! Lol!!

Also, I have officially ventured into salt!! I recently bought a BioCube 29 but ultimately decided to get a used 75 gallon setup from someone. I went and picked it up today ... and while there they guy gave me a TON of dry rock (unfortunately I'll have to cure it and cycle it) along with some live rock, 4 fish and 5 different kinds of corals!! Thankfully I had setup the bc29 before I went! I actually plan to rehome all but 1 of the fish. I can get some credit at the LFS for them!

Everything was gross and the stand was in worse shape than I thought (apparently we have differing opinions about "nothing being wrong") but it's going to be a fun project! I got the sump, pump and protein skimmer all cleaned up when I got home. It's a trigger sump and reef octopus skimmer. The tank is huge and still in the truck with the rock and cabinet! I'll be unloading it tomorrow hopefully. I think I'm going to just set the tank in the garage and load it with all the rock and fill it up with a power head and let it sit. The cabinet I have decided to refinish. It's a nice wood cabinet but the previous owner (a friend of they guy I bought it from) let it get a bit water damaged. The hood has mold inside and there is some water damage on the bottom part. I plan to bleach it down, sand it all and kilz and paint the inside and refinish the outside. It'll be a project but I think it'll look good when I'm done. Hopefully when I'm done with all of that the rock will be cured and I'll be able to clean and set up the tank to finish cycling.

Anyway, I'm super excited!!! Wish me luck in my new adventure!

Finally got some pots for some of the plants in the grow out tank. I pulled a huge water sprite from the shrimp tank because it was so overgrown and blocking all the light. I planted it in one of the pots. The rest of the plants in pots are some that were just hanging out the in the grow out. I'd like to eventually have everything potted with maybe a few floating but not just random plants everywhere. The big pink one on the left I just trimmed from the 20 long. It's all one plant! I just love that stuff. It floats too, that's how it was before I planted it. I still need to do a little trimming in the shrimp tank and I think I want to move the wisteria out and move the reddish plant over to the back right corner. It grows like that pink plant but with fatter leaves and more of a red color than pink. I also love how the Taiwan moss is growing in on the rock! It's finally starting to look really good!

My grow out tank is also bustling with babies! All of the recent litters of fry are growing fast! I am going to try to thin out the tank a bit and take in some of the bigger ones to the LFS for credit tomorrow. I've also got several female guppies about to pop! Hopefully by the time I'm able to get my 75 all set up and ready for fish I'll have enough credit to start stocking it!

And for anyone wanting to follow along with my salt build, here is the link.

And I'm very upset with our new kitten, Tiny Cat. He's too curious for his own good! He actually fell into my 20 long earlier today and apparently stepped in the fry basket allowing my betta in. It was a bit until my wife noticed the betta was IN the basket and called me in the room. I count 2 survivors in the basket and have seen 2 others in the tank. Out of over 100 Cory fry/babies! It has ruined my whole day. Besides the fact that my betta had a Cory fry feast, that was supposed to be money towards my salt setup! That was about a $200+ dinner for Nelson.

I HAVE a versa top, I just went to bed and forgot to close it! and now I don't see any survivors. I'm just hoping any that escaped into the tank have found a good hiding spot until they grow some. I need to top off the tank with some cooler water again and see if I can get some more eggs.

Thanks, they are actually whitish with black speckling but I got them from Amazon. They were pretty cheap but took a long time since they shipped from china.

The lights I had on that tank made everything look purple/blue but I got a Finnex planted plus 24/7 for Christmas and it's way mo' betta now! Plants like it much better too! I also love the fully automated setting! I'm much more fond of the natural coloring it produces too!

aaron0g here is my tank thread. Not sure if I've mentioned it in here yet but I also have a 1 gallon cylinder with live plants, heater and sponge filter with a tiny pea puffer. I know it's a bit on the small side, but she (I'm pretty sure it's a she) usually just hangs around and doesn't do much swimming anyway. She eats my endless supply of pond snails from my other tanks.
