Cichlids and tetras

In another thread that is now closed, someone asked advice about putting a small yellow lab in with tetras and most people advised against.

I just wanted to say that I have black skirt tetras in with 2-3 inch yellow labs and they don't bother them one bit. Any aggression from the yellow labs is directed at their own species. They get along fine.

 

I would say that this will only last until they hit maturity. Your labs are still very young and their true aggression doesn't come out until they get mature enough to breed.

What you are doing is brave and I applaud you for it. But to tell other people to try it without long term success isn't a good idea. If you can Sucessfully keep them together when they are all mature then you can say for certain that they are safe together.

These bold type of suggestions are best kept to yourself or close friends until you have some kind of proof or experience personally. I don't mean to sound harsh but we do have a lot of newcomers to the hobby and I don't think its a good Idea to tell them its okay to mix African cichlids with community fish.

Honestly the only tetra I am aware of that will withstand Africans cichlids is the Congo tetra.

 

Hmm....Well, it wasn't a suggestion and I'm not telling other people to do it. It's just a personal experience. And my point was that the guy in question said his Yellow lab was just 2-3CM. Well mine are 2-3 inches.

 

I understand what you where saying. That's not to say others will misinterpret the information stated.

In no way did I mean to come off harsh, just forwarning others of the risk involved.
