Cichlid Spawning Question Remove The Eggs Or Let The Parents Learn.

Good morning everyone. So I've got a mated pair of German blue Rams andal a mated flowerhorn pair. They started spawning a couple of months ago oit of the blue and so far have seen the eggs grow to small free swimming bursts and then the parents eat them. Keep in mind German blue Rams have only had two spawns and the flowerhorns just had their first. My question is, is there any benefit to allowing the parents to try to become parent ie stop eating the fry or will this always be the case and should I just remove the egg straight away. I newer to the Hobby and don't have much experience with fry hence the reason for the question. Looking for some direction. I have some other small tanks that I could setup as well as a small specimen container. My goal woild be to breed abs raise these fry....and help would be greatly appreciated.

To complicate the matters I have the flowerhorns in a 55 gallon and I'm about to getting ready to transfer to a 75 and I'm worried that the move will stress them and stop their spawning. Wondering if I should wait a fee months to get a good set of fry before making the switch.

For Cichlids, usually you let the parents take care of the frys. They will learn and get better on their own.

I'm not sure about the flowerhorns, but if the GBRs share the tank with any other fish it's very unlikely that they'd be able to raise the fry to adulthood. If they are in their own tank, they should learn over time. I personally always remove my eggs and hatch them in a separate tank.

They are both in their own tanks so no worries about community fish. Last two spawns the fry for the GBRs got probably 4 days out just about where seem like they were going to be totally free swimming and then there were lunch

Yes, with GBRs the parents will learn... and it's a beautiful sight to witness from what I've heard... I've not bred them, but have researched it quite a bit.

I have no clue about flower horns though lol! tyguy7760? Not sure if you have kept/bred flowerhorns or not, but you do know your Cichlids

Well here goes nothing. The gbr's just spawned again. Third times a charm hopefully. Looks like the flowerhorns are digging again. Maybe they will soar again too. Last time it was within a few days of each other.

flowerhorns can be quite aggressive when they aren't spawning. During spawning they can go on a killing spree and kill everything in the tank...including their mate. Most breeders will separate them with egg crate and get them to spawn through it.

I've noticed that with the male. I make sure to give her some solid hiding spots because he is wild. I did notice last gI around she was pushing him around. She's small too but fierce. See pics above. She's hides between theb flower pots.

Hard to see because she's dark but she's there

Haha hope this isn’t in the same tank xD I have got 5 GBR and a pair only spawned once. My thoughts are that they need more time to learn how to parent. If you’re ok with this then you’ll form an awesome little shoal of GBR. I think keeping them in the same tank is the best option, parenting behaviour has almost been bred out of them so it does take a while to learn.

Goodness no. Thise poor gbr would have been lunch if they were in with the flowerhorns. lol. The gbr's are in their own 20g.
