Cichlid Crossbreed?

It’s not an aggressive tank but cichlids will be cichlids. I have a green Texas and a convict that are going thru the motions of mating. Can they? Here’s a pic of my green Texas. His colors are really dark and intense right now and that’s the convict in the pot

    I've never seen the two types mating, but they are both central american so i would guess its possible.

    It used to be a fairly common hybrid, actually. And very, very ugly.
