Choosing A Blue Peacock Cichlid

I am stocking my 125 gallon peacock cichlid and I want to get around six of an all or mostly blue variety. I was thinking about either MasonI or Regal peacocks since they both look pretty blue. I would be cool to get both but I know you are not supposed to mix different types of peacock cichlids that look the same. If you have any other suggestions for all blue peacocks I would love to hear them.

 

Why shouldn't you mix peacocks? They are perfectly fine to mix unless you plan on getting breeding groups of different species, in which case it is best to have species only tanks to prevent cross breeding.

OB peacocks from a blue line are very nice, also known as BB (blueberry).



You could even skip the peacocks and go with blue ahli/fryerI haps.

 

I am mixing species, I just don't want to mix any that look really similar.

 

That whole no mixing same colored Peacocks is just a myth someone made up. You are perfectly able to do so. Demeter breeds them and she didn’t even know what you were talking about lol.

 

Ok cool, I am new to peacock cichlids. I want to do everything right. I just got my first ones today.

 

The only Africans I’d worry about mixing similar looking species of is Victorian haps, which can be quite vicious. With such a large tank I wouldn’t worry too much. Just toss is whatever peacocks and medium sized haps you want and it should be alright. Keep in mind that some fish just won’t play nice in some cases, so rehome problem fish as needed. It can take time to balance out an African cichlid tank but it’s worth it in the end.

 

Just wondering what about mixing blue peacocks and blue haps like FryerI and copadichromis? will those also be ok together?
