Talking the wife out to eat for her birthday and she wants to go to a Chinese place. Any recommendations on what's good. I'm a meat and potato guy. And if your wondering yes I have led a sheltered life.

Spicy or bland? Beef, pork or chicken?

My favorites are Mongolian beef, Kung Pao (spicy) chicken or shrimp, Beef and broccoli, Sweet 'n Sour pork, BBQ pork (not ribs).

Forget 'taters, but most veggie dishes are pretty good, along with any of the above.

Greasy and spicy I can't tolerate. A few of my favorites are hot roast beef and I like cocktail shrimp. So shrimp or beef. I see so many terms I have no idea what they mean.

Closest panda express is well over an hour away. I'm just trying to figure out what's good.

they usually have some kind of fried breaded shrimp or chicken coated in a honey sauce. orange chicken is also very mild and good. chow mein noodles or fried rice is good to eat it with. peppered steak I don't think is too spicy, just don't eat the peppers. the buffet I used to go to had these empanada-like things stuffed with beef and veggies. I think they actually had roast beef too lol. they tend to have a few american dishes for the picky eaters like fried chicken, french fries, bread, pizza (my brother doesn't like asian food).

also... since it's a buffet, I suggest you try a little bit of everything! it's good to keep an open mind, you don't know what you might end up liking!

Most chinese places here are pretty americanized.

Mongolian beef is just beef strips sauteed with some scallions and drenched in a sweet dark gravy.

General Tso's chicken is fried chicken covered the a redish sauce that's primarily sugar, soy and a little whiskey and dried chillies. Hands down one of the most popular fake chinese dishes in America.they even made a documentary about it.

BroccolI beef is just steamed broccolI with sauteed strips of beef in a somewhat sweet black bean and soy sauce

A lot of asian buffets have pizza or crablegs or something not asian anyway. You can't lose.
