Being able to have chickens and free range them is one of the perks of living in a small town of Alaska.

What varieties of chicken do you have there? They are adorable.

They are different varieties of araucanas and get big fluffs of their cheek when they grow up right now they only have little fluffs on their cheeks right now.

I am especially excited about the blue araucana.

Araucanas! Does that mean you get cool looking eggs? My mother used to live down the street from a woman who sold eggs from her backyard flock, and there were sometimes blue or green eggs in there. Great fun for my boys, although they got Araucana and anaconda confused.

Nice break from a fish forum

I plan to get into bee keeping. I would also like to keep chickens but have heard that ducks are better at controlling hive beetles.

Maybe both....A Koi pond for the ducks...Hmmmmmm...

But think of all the room you’d have for more tanks in the barn!

Yup they lay different colored eggs, I heard them called easter egg layers before.

Fanatic

Precious, owning fowl in my area of the woods isn't allowed either, most likely due to the noise factor and possible mess.

Here is some recent pics they are flying now.
