I'm new at this and I have a question. can you put zebra danios and cherry barbs with fancy guppies?

P.S
The barbs and danios are very peacefull and I think they won't be fin nippers.

    Thanks

First of all, we have to talk about changing your name...... j/k.....

Second of all, they all should be fine together....

Sounds like a great visual combo too. how big of a tank do you have for them? how many of each will you be wanting? I think the danios are best in groups of 6 or more and the barbs 3 or more so a 20 gallon would be a good fit.

Thanks for the answers i'm going to get guppies now.

Also I have a 12 gallon tank and plan on having 3 danios plus 2 glofish, 4 cherry barbs and 2 male guppies.

Is the 12 gallon aquarium hexagonal or a rectangle?

Check the profiles on the fish that you want here: https://www.fishlore.com/TropicalFishProfiles.htm.. this way you can see what kind of behavior they'll have, how big their adult size is (so you can stick with the 1 gallon per adult inch guideline) and how big a school a fish would be happy in.

HI bo sox, welcome to fishlore, well, please do not keep barbs with goldfish, no matter how big your tank is, barbs will eventually harass your gold fish. as BettaCouple said u have to keep 6 barbs together as they r schooling fish, same rule for the danios and tetras too. BTW, goldfish may also eat your guppies.

I don't think he's getting goldfish. He's getting glofish.

MY CHERRY BARBS KILLED MY FANCY GUPPIES!!!!! They are supposed to be peaceful but they shredded my Guppies tails over night and one female went to town on their bodies as I tried to save them.

I love my barbs but they are not docile. I would say think twice or at least keep a close eye on them, as Zebra danios can fin nip too!

If you keep them in a school of them they usually don't have problems.

glofish are zebra danios that are green, red, or yellow and they glow in the color that they are.

FLBettaC 40 ltr tank, well planted 7 Cherry Barbs 2 Guppies.....all babies at that time! Big Bertha, the female Cherry witch tried it on with an Otto today as I was glued to tank, he/she sent her packing very quickly, so funny to see her put in her place!!!
I now have 5 Cherry barbs, 4 Checkered barbs, 4 White Cloud Minnows and 3 Otos in the Asbo tank. They get on great, lovely to watch but I would never trust barbs with long fins!!!

Admittedly I don't know much about cherry barbs. I ordered 2 of them from an online shop about a month ago, everything I read said they're one of the few barbs that don't like to school. I have a 220 gallon planted tank with 14 zebra danios 6 longfin leopard danios, a gold loach, a chinese algae eater, a 2 panda corys, and 6 red wag platies. My question is all the danios hang out in one big school, and the cherry barbs are schooling with them. I read on this forum that they would do that if they felt scared. All of my fish are really peaceful and get along very well... its been a month and they still school with them. So I was wondering if I was mislead and should I gget a few more barbs for them to school with or are they constantly stressed by the danios. If they're stressed I have a 36 gallon that can take them. They don't seem to be bothered they kind of lead the pack of danios and don't get chased or nipped at all.

You could get more barbs. My glow light tetras school with my neons and my hatchets school with my Buenos Aries tetras.

I can't find an edit button so sorry to bump my thread, but I forgot to mention I introduced the cherry barbs with a bumblebee catfish, everything else has been living in the tank for 3 months or so. As its very large and doesn't have many fish I thought there would be plenty of space for the barbs to do their own thing.

Thanks! In my 36 gallon I have neons and glow lights they all school together as well. They're my favorites

Well that's good. I'd like to get 6 more cherry barbs then, they look really nice in the school of danios since they're very bright red

If you put a Bumblebee Catfish in that 220, your population of smaller fish will eventually start to dwindle, as this is a nocturnal predator species. Anything it finds on the bottom at night will be eaten.

Thank you, I kind of figured that but since he's only about 2" long I have him in there, I was afraid of putting him with the tetras since they go to the bottom in their caves at night and they're tiny. I'm currently cycling a 55 gallon that I plan to put a few larger fish and that will probably be his home as I really love my danios and platies. I just hope he doesn't explode in size too quickly. He has grown a bit over the last month but not too much. I've been dropping in some tubifex right before lights out for him and the loach and so far all fish are still accounted for.

Don't wait too long. Feeding Tubificid worms may accelerate his growth, as they are a lot of protein.

Should be only another week or so before the tank cycles.

Also I'm wondering about the chinese algae eater as I've read conflicting information about them. I think the information available confuses them with smaller algae eater species as I've read that they're totally peaceful and safe for smaller fish. Then i've read they can be pretty aggressive and territorial and damage larger fish especially angels. Ive had him almost a year and while he's quite active I've never noticed him to be aggressive but who knows when the lights go out. He's not as large as I thought he would get. He was around 2" when I first got him and almost a year later he's just shy of 4".
