I have never seen tanks so overrun with algae in my life. Dead fish were in EVERY tank. ICH and fin rot were rampant. Their "display" tank was only displaying how not to care for a tank or fish. If I had a quarantine up yet I would have offered the manager a dollar apiece for two of the GBRs with ICH. Such a disaster of a place.

Sounds really terrible, humane society should start focusing on fish as well. They are living breathing creatures as well.

That place sounds like a total dump but 1 dollar for GBR with Ich? That's a total bargain! If the ich was pretty bad you could always to a salt dip before quarantine, then treat it with heat.

I don't care if they were giving the fish away. I would never ever give a store like that my business. I would report them to the Better Business Bureau if they are a member and also go on-line to see if there are already sites where people are rating the place.

Don't spend your money in a hole like that. You just allow them to keep their doors open longer.

You can always give a Yelp review.

Sad thing is, my actual local is the same chain, but the fish are actually taken care of at that store. Some still arrive sick, but that has to do with suppliers, not the store.

A lot of things have to do with people having a care about them and then others just wanting to make bottom line. I honestly wouldn't report them to an agency but I would inform anyone about their practices at that particular store. You will never hurt the chain but you can always make one stores revenue from that particular department drop.

What is really crazy is I bought from the disaster store once when I first started before I knew anything. 50% of the fish died within a week. I never even noticed how bad it was until I educated myself. Which means that tons of people go in there and take home already sick fish because they don't know what to look for. Bad for the animals and not fair to the consumer.
