Charcoal pellets vs carbon infused pads

Hi. The carbon infused pads look very convenient but do they work as well as using activated charcoal pieces for chemical filtration?

 

They will work, but for a shorter amount of time. Using activated carbon pieces will last longer. What is your need for carbon?

I usually use it when I initially start up a tank in case there are any impurities in the tank and to remove meds.

 

I would advise you to use purigen instead of carbon.
It's efficiency and life span is so much better.

 

I just switched to purigen, tank looks so much clearer now
