Changing tank from aggressive to community

29-gallon tank I have put four gouramis together with 7 tiger barbs, I want to add the two silver gouramies to the 29-gallon from my 10-gallon. this tank is just for my grandmother's enjoyment, there are no live plants, I will be adding in some nitrite snails as well, looking for fish that get along. so she can see them from her sitting spot, any thoughts that would help me with this project? I never had a community tank before and this will be my second one this year. and yes there are two Cichlids in the corner breeding baskets, it was their tank I will be trading them in for hopefully friendlier fish.

I would strongly encourage plants. Because they can help keep the tank clean. It's understandable if you can't.

I have been told that gouramis can be mean. Tiger barbs are also semi-aggressive. If you don't have those already id recommend a schooling fish, tetras are gorgeous and easy to maintain, maybe add some corydoras. If you already have all of those fish id just stick with those guys for now, see how they act.

I agree with the above comments. If you don't want aggressive fishes, dwarf gourami and tiger barbs are poor choices. Dwarf gourami in particular can become very aggressive. Tiger barbs can be fin nippers...especially if kept in smaller numbers.

Perhaps you could swap the dwarf gourami for a few honey gouramis, and swap the tiger barbs for something like lambchop rasboras.
