Changing HOB filter soon after cycling

Hi! I recently finished cycling my 20 gallon about 2 weeks ago with the help of some filter media from another tank, which is still there. I currently have 6 zebra danios and 2 honey gouramis in the tank and plan to get more fish in the future. I've read that the Aqueon 10 HOB filter that came with my tank will not be adequate for the fish I plan to add (6 cory catfish, and maybe 2 guppies), so I've purchased another filter (Aquaclear 50) that is currently cycling in a 10 gallon tank that will be my quarantine tank.
So, the question is, once the 10 gallon tank is cycled, how risky will it be to swap the two filter units? Is there a high risk that I could crash the cycle in my tank that already has fish in it? Thanks!

Adding the larger HOB with more media shouldn’t have much of an affect on your stocked tank. Moving the smaller one over may mess with your parameters for a little until in the other tank until things level out. It should be relatively straightforward

If you swap the media over when you change the filters so that the media stays in the tank it's from you shouldn't have any issues. . If in doubt don't feed the fish for a couple of days after changing the filters and add more bottled bacteria if you have any. But this is probably not needed.

If you are doing a fishless cycle on the 10 gallon tank and only want it as a QT tank, this is what I would do. I would put both filters on the 20 gallon and run them side-by-side for at least 4 weeks. By that time both filters should have a good colony of BB and you could then take the AC 10 out of the 20 gallon tank to use it in your QT tank. Just remember, once the filter is cycled, you need to keep the BB alive with an ammonia source.

Thanks for the replies!

I want to make sure that I can sustain my cycle once I remove the "seed" filter media from the Aqueon 10 filter and rely only on the BB that are in the other filter media. Right now the only thing I know for sure is that once I added that seed media, my tank was almost immediately cycled. I don't know how much BB is in the media that came with the HOB filter.
Maybe I could cut this media into smaller and smaller pieces until eventually I throw away what's left?

Would this extra flow cause any stress to the gouramis? I've read that they like to live in calm waters.
