Change Sand Substrate To Gravel

Hi got sand in my 60litre tank but want to change it to gravel whats the best way to do this as not got spare tank to put fish in. Was thinking of take just under half the water out then vac the rest out with the sand would that work

That’s pretty much the way I’ve alwyas taken out my sand. Works pretty well from my experience and makes it significantly easier.

It may cause a mini cycle, but that’s not anything to bad. Can usually be fixed with a few waterchanges or prevented by putting a bit of bacteria in after your done. I don’t really think leaving a thin layer of sand in would do to much with keeping the parameters the same.

It is interesting to see how different members do things Two weeks ago I changed our last gravel aquarium over to sand. Did it with the fish in. Scooped out the gravel with a net and carefully sprinkled it into a 5 gal bucket watching for fish. 55 gallon aquarium took some time but everyone came through it just fine.
