Care For Shrimp Eggs?

Hii

So I've only had my shrimp (8 RCS, 3 Blue Velvet) for a little under a month, and I noticed about a week ago that one of my red cherry shrimps was berried? or carrying eggs?

I know it takes about 2-3 weeks for the eggs to hatch, but is there anything special I need to do? Is the filter a hazard to the eggs or babies?

I recommend a sponge filter so that the eggs or the babies won’t get sucked up the intake.

^^^ This ^^^

If you don't have a sponge filter, cover your filter intakes with sponge. Baby shrimp are TINY, literally pinhead sized upon hatching. While they may be able to survive in a canister filter (I have heard many stories of people doing maintenance and finding shrimp colonies in their filters), it is not ideal.

Also ensure your tank has plenty of biofilm for them to eat. I dose Bacter AE a few times a week in my RCS tank.

You can tie panty hose around the filter intake to keep shrimp babies safe.

Cover the intake with sponge. And provide moss for cover but I'm guessing you already have. You'll be able to see them. Very tiny and clear. You don't have to feed them anything really. Just feed regular amount you always do.

A piece of cholla wood might provide a good refuge for them if you don't have moss. My first RCS hatched this week and the babies flocked to hide in (and eat off) the cholla wood. A piece might cost $2-$3.

They're getting bolder, venturing away from it here and there, but always go back to it.

If you have some sort of plant or moss they love to put there babies in there to keep them safe, I've noticed. I haven't tried the cholla wood but I have some basic java moss and I can always see the babies crawling around in it where the bigger shrimp don't scare them off.
