Can’t get nitrites to go down

Hello, I’m doing a fish in cycle on my new tank. For about a week now, my nitrites have been off the charts(over 5 ppm) and its not going down. I’ve been constantly dosing the tank with prime to protect the fish. How much longer will it take for the nitrites to go down? And should I be doing daily water changes to protect the fish? Thanks

Yes you should be doing daily water changes. Water changes daily or every other day should be happening throughout the whole duration of a fish in cycle. I would Do a 50% water change rn.

Ok I will, doing these big water changes won’t hurt the cycle?

Yes change water. Just dosing Prime will not be enough, It only protects up tp 1ppm. Try to keep the Ammonia and Nitrites as low as you can with water changes. Water changes are the only thing that are going to protect the fish.

No the bacteria is not significant in the water column.

Try to get the Nitrite under .25 ppm with water changes. It is really toxic for fish.

I just did a 40ish percent water change and it brought the nitrite down to about 0.25 ppm. I’ll keep doing water changes daily if it gets bad
