Can’t get hard water stains off canopy plastic

Hey guys, I’m working on getting a hand me down tank ready to set up. I re sealed the tank itself and got all of the glass clean from water stains but the clear plastic section of the canopy is proving very difficult. I don’t know what kind of plastic it is. I’ve tried a magic eraser, vinegar, 91% isopropyl alcohol and lots of elbow grease. I can’t get this stuff off. Whenever I try something it looks like it goes away and then as soon as whatever I used dries or is wiped off it’s right back. I tried a razor blade in a few small corner areas that aren’t visible and all that does it scratch the plastic horribly. I’ve also tried plastic razor blades. Anyone have any tips or tricks up their sleeve that could help me with this? Also, if this is the best it’s going to get will it effect the light coming into the tank enough to worry about?

I wouldn’t worry about it inhibiting lighting. Did you try soaking it in 100% vinegar for a few days tehn scrubbing?

if vinegar or lemon juice or citric acid don't do it I'd try CLR.

That was the first thing I did, soaked it in a Rubbermaid tub for 4 days then scrubbed

Just tried CLR with the same results as everything else. When it’s damp it’s crystal clear and as soon as everything fully dries the haze is back. Looks like I’m just going to live with it. Thank you for the suggestion!

I agree with CoryFan. You won't even know its like that once the light is on there.

The best luck I had getting rid of those water deposit stains was leaving a paper towel soaked in pure vinegar sit on top for hours to soak in. But if you soaked if for days and it did not come off, it probably won't unfortunately
