Can’t Get Egg Bubbler To Work!

Sadly one of my pregnant shrimp died early today and her eggs are fairly mature. I have a cichlids egg tumbler (because I couldn’t find any marketed for neo-shrimp) and I just can’t seem to get it to work for the eggs. They either get stuck in the bottom grating or the foam and unless I move the bubble stone way down into the tube I don’t seem to get any current at all. Please help! How do I save these shrimplettes. (They already have eyes and everything...seems like just a couple days away and they woulda been born normally so I’m really really sad but semI hopeful if I can get this to work.

I wouldn't bother with the egg tumbler, the shrimp eggs are so tiny it's more of a pain than anything. I'd just place the eggs in a container of water that can float in the tank (a specimen container is perfect) and then place an air stone in the container. You don't want the eggs to be moving around in the water column, just enough action to have water moving over the eggs. Either crimp the tube or have an adjustable valve if the flow is too strong.

Never heard of artificially hatching shrimp eggs but tis the way I'd go about it.

 

I can definitely give that a try thanks! I’ve seen people do it on you tube so I’m hopeful... because they are technically “live born” they just need to mature and not mold which is why the mothers shuffle them, or so I’ve read...?...

 

The mother will clean the eggs and keep them aerated which would be the fanning. The main thing is to keep water moving over the eggs, this is vital to pretty much all fish and inverts. So long as they are in clean water and there's enough, but not too much, water circulation things should be fine. You can also add some Methylene blue to prevent fungus but that isn't usually needed.

Hub came home with a mesh bag that is enough to let lots of water thru but is small enough weave to not let the eggs out so I wrapped the cichlid tumbler in it and just put them in there with an air-stoneless tube going pretty far down to the bottom to have them get the flow... at this point I think I saw a pinkish white “hatched” fry that wasn’t alive so I’m worried anymore messing with them is just gonna do more harm than good. Luckily I got a link to an actual shrimp egg tumbler so I’m going to probably get that in case of future incidents...

 

I recommend getting methylene blue if you want to try to raise eggs artificially in the future. I personally had a much higher success rate when dosing my GBR eggs with it vs aeration alone.
