Can't decide which I want for my pond, a Common or a Sailfin pleco

I can't decide which I want for my pond, a Common or a Sailfin pleco. It's 150 gallons, with 7 goldfish. I can either track down a Sailfin, what I've really wanted for ever, or I can get a free Common from a lady near by who wants the best for her fish, and has already turned down several homes for it, but has approved my pond. I'm just not sure I can handle a 2+ foot fish in my pond, or that I can feed that 2+ foot fish enough to leave my goldies alone, as we all know Commons can go a little psycho after a while... I want to give a deserving fish a good home, and it would be totally cool to have such a huge fish, but I also really, REALLY want a Sailfin. What do you guys think?

Here is my opinion on this matter: The owner of common pleco seems like a responsible owner and is only willing to give her pleco that he/she deserves a good home. If you turn her down, I'm sure she will find another person that meets the requirements for her pleco. That is my two cents.

Get a Sailfin...

At first I thought, sailfin, but then I thought- its in a pond, how can you even see it to appreciate it? So I'd go with the common.

I think that the Common Pleco is underrated in the Pleco family. I personally really admire their long and pointy body shape and their black coloration. Their fins, especially the tailfin, reminds me of the Batmobile.

But how can I see a black fish on the bottom of a black pond? LOL And I'd get to see it in the winter, most likely

Don't get me wrong, I do love me a good common pleco

You see with your heart and not with your eyes

I've seen common plecos with a light grey coloration. They might show up better against the black bottom of the pond. I think that it is more fun to have a huge black Pleco camouflaging at the bottom than one that is easily seen. If you have guests over, their eyes are most likely first drawn to the colorful and top swimming goldfishes. But they might by chance see the Pleco. And the shock of seeing something that big that they weren't able to spot before leaves quite an impression. It's sort of like those optical illusions that hides a different within the .

If you've wanted a sailfin that long, get it. Seems to me to be what you really want. I'm sure she'll find someone else.

I would personally choose the sailfin. The lady will find a good home for the common.

Well I want both, Eienna, but sailfins are a bit more manageable in size lol

I think she will, though, Quad, you're right. We'll see how it plays out lol I have to order a sailfin, because they don't sell them at PetSnart anymore :/

Hey AkarI get what you really want don't feel bad if you don't take the common plec he will find a home. If you settle for him every time u see him you will think why aren't you a sailfin which is not good for either of you
