I found out that endler fish are not available in my area and will never be available in my area. What other live bearer fish would be good with 3 fancy guppies?

none in the size of tank that you have but you could add 2 more male guppies, both platies and mollys get 2 inches and up

What about 1 Platy?

You could do 3 male guppys and 1 platy but I wouldn't add anymore than that

Could I do 5 fancy guppies?

1 male, 3 or 4 female? The petco nearby will take fish donations. (As in fry!)

do you have a spare tank to put the fry in with that many females your looking at 20-60 fry per female every 28 days

Females produce a lot of babies and if you wish to breed I would say for a tank that size I would keep 1 male and 2 females (you will find it hard to part with the babies)

I had a female drop fry on me 6 days after I got her as she came pregnant

I think I'd rather have all male guppies then! What about a bamboo shrimp in with the other shrimp?

Okay mixing shrimp isn't really the best way to go, an example being my friend who had RCS's and a lone Ghost shrimp, she wasn't cluing in why her shrimp disappeared without leaving bodies and they weren't in hiding, until she was explain what was in her tank, well guess what she had one well fed ghost shrimp and no RCS as soon as she removed the ghosty the RSC's she put in the tank thrived and bred

How long does it take for ghost shrimp to breed?

What exactly do you mean? They are harder to breed, and the larvae need special food to survive. Cherry shrimp are much easier.

Would guppies be OK for cycling a fish tank?

I've read conflicting things about that, where some say that they are hardy enough (normally they are) but the fancy types you see in stores are less hardy due to inbreeding.

No fish is OK for cycling a tank.

True, but let's not take that post that literally...... some are better, some are worse.

Guppies have been overbred to the point where they are somewhat sensitive, especially the ones you have at your pet store. You'd be better off with endlers for sure, they are much hardier and able to withstand a cycle better.

Are you planning to cycle the tank with TSS?
