Inhabitants (future) 2-3 honey gouramis , 8 cardinals tetras, bn pleco/8 corydora. I have a 150gph hob, i am choosing between the 211gph hob (for 12x combined flow rate) or 105gph canister filter (for 8.5x flow rate combined)?

    Pros
Canister has better filter media choices.

Hob has the recommended x10 flow rate with an ok filter media option.

    Con
Canister is only 8.5x flow rate

Hob doesn't have filter media choices

The canister filter won't filter 105 GPH when it has media in it - it'll be less. Can you go with a bigger canister? Otherwise I'd go with the HOB.

Due to budget restriction I could only afford that canister. Ok, I will go with hob for now, and I guess by december replace one with a higher rate canister. Thanks!

Not a high GPH on that one either.

I guess its ok for now. Currently understocked.

It's not the stocking so much as the tank volume. If the tank has a large volume, you're not getting much turnover of the water.

I guess i just have to get another canister with same rated volume.
