Canister Filters for turtle

Okay so I have my painted turtle in a 29 gallon filled about half so just about 15 gallons and I intend to fill it up more very soon as my boy is growing fast now or at least it seems. I'm looking for ideas for canister filters. I have never used one before and I am trying to find something good that's not like $200.00. I was thinking of trying the marineland magnum internal canister but I don't know if that will be sufficient. IT seems decent Right now I am using an Aqueon 40e and a repticlear and they seem to be struggling to keep up with the 15 gallons...lol...but it was cheap what can I say! I have some whisper 20 and 40 internal filters and those seem good however I am struggling to get them to stay on the hooks for some reason and the suction cups seem to be slipping also. I am little worried its gonna fall and crush him. I assume I will be getting some pet store or amazon gift cards for Christmas so figured I would start researching some options!

I added a SunSun302 to my 29 when I brought it inside from being out in my yard all summer and it does an amazing job. And it has a very full stocking. Have you considered a 40 breeder for your turtle possibly. It'll be a bigger footprint and will be a bit more shallow than the 29. I don't have turtles but I think I would do a lower wider tank for one. just my thoughts.

Yeah I will get something bigger eventually he’s still small and I may move in the near future. I didn’t want to have to move a huge tank. I might even do a tub instead . Painted turtles are pretty strong swimmers as long as they have a dry area for basking you can give them quite a bit of what depth. If you think about them living in ponds and lakes that water depth is greater than an aquarium. I’ve heard good things about the SunSuns, might give that a go!

Marineland c-series here on my turtle and fish tanks. Sunsun is just as efficient for turtles from all I seen. Great canisters.

I have a sunsun and it works well. I’m sure there are better quality filters out there but keeps my slider tank clean.

Since your tank is filled half way, might want to look at these Turtle cliff filters.

Thanks for the suggestion but I think I already have the filter that’s in that in my tank! I believe it’s a reptI clear. I run that along with the aqueon Internal 40 but I need something stronger. I also plan to fill the tank all the way and use a turtle topper so I’m going to need something with more gph to handle 29 gallon of water and a messy turtle.
