Hi! am getting a new canister for my planted tank.. sunsun 603b.. What can be the max off time for this canister? I got jungle with lots of fish(over crowded).. I don't want to run the canister all the day..would like to turn it off Night.. is this okay? How about hang on back filter instead of canister filter? I heard people saying not to turnoff the canister more than 2 hrs..Let me know guys so that I would buy any other filter..

I wouldn't turn any type of filter off all night. Especially in an over crowded tank.
Is noise your concern? Why is this necessary?

You should look for a quieter filter. The fish aren't going to stop producing waste at night, so you'll end up with ammonia/nitrite spikes.

Are you switching to a canister due to noise from a current filter? I had hob filters for years, then I switched to a canister... I'll never go back. Less noise than my minI fridge, less noise than my bathroom fan.... I only notice the trickle of water in my tank. Super relaxing. Right next to my bed too!

And to answer your question, I don't recommend turning the filter off at all, unless you're cleaning it.

I wouldn’t recommend turning any kind of filter off for any prolonged time.

Sorry all filters are meant to be running 24/7. If you have a power failure, like what happens all over the world every day, your filters can be off for weeks as long as the media stays wet and it will be fine.

won't add anything new than what others mentioned that we run canisters 24x7..

was just wondering you have dense planted jungle tank and that I further assume as it is fairly big tank.. 603b is a very good but relatively small filter with effectively around 200 to 300 lph.. if we go by water filtration expectation of say around 6 times per hour, then 603b may be suitable for tank size of around 50 ltrs.. but then 50 ltrs is relatively not large.. what is your tank size.. how many ltrs to circulate.. how much throw this canister is expected to have..
