I want to get some zebra danios but can they be put in bowls? If they can be put in bowls can anyone tell me everything I need for them before I put hem in the bowl

Zebra danios should really not be in anything less than a 20 gallon long tank (with heater and filter). IMO, nothing should go in a bowl.

I'm new here, but as far as I know bowl has an inappropriate shape where water surface is too small which prevents enough gas exchange. There's not enough oxygen in bowls and fish suffer. And there's not enough room for swimming.

There schooling fish, so 6+ is recommended. No bowl.

Zebra danios seem like boring minnows but after having kept them, they are truly beautiful and wonderful fish.

Ask yourself if you'd want to live in there is a good rule of thumb for me.

OP could always do a plant bowl But you'd still need frequent water changes or water movement to prevent the water from going stagnant - still a challenge in a bowl.

No fish should go in a bowl.

Try Shrimp! I'm in the market for some Blue Steel Bolt Shrimp...although at £50 each it's hard to keep the temptation alive.

I've kept a lot of fish in bowls. There are a number of fish that are fine in bowls. Many Killifish species are easily maintained in bowls, and I know a great fish breeder who spawns most of his small egg scatterers in a 2 gallon drum bowl. The key is the surface area. You cannot fill the bowl much more than halfway, as that is the maximum surface area, although I have used aeration in some bowls to maximize CO2 exchange, and filled them a bit fuller.

However, an active swimmer such as a Zebra Danio should not be so restricted on a permanent basis. However, I disagree with the need for a 20 gallon long tank for small Danios like Zebras. 15 gallon tank is certainly adequate for them. I also would not waste a heater on their tank, but then my fishroom is always warmer than the rest of the house, so the tank doesn't get cold if placed far enough off the floor. I've had them breed in tanks near the floor, temperature was about 68. But that's another debate.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! They need a much bigger tank than a bowl and they wil JUMP. thought about getting mine a bowl because he was old and grumpy and didn't like other fish but then he jumped out of my 10 gallon tank and we couldn't find him for awhile but then we found him and put him back in the tank, So no.
