Can you feed frozen too often?

I recently added a peacock gudgeon to my community. She eats the pellets ok but is so slow that she gets 1-2 0.5mm pellet per feeding. She ignores the flake thus far. But she is very quick with frozen food and her favorite is brine shrimp which the rummynose and gouramis take a few minutes of tasting and spitting to figure out. What are the downsides to feeding frozen more often other than cost?

I feed my Rams frozen bloodworms (along with a mixture of other stuff) every day.

They don’t seem to mind!

I was thinking of this as a possibility. Throwing the bug bites/flake in 1st on 1 side and brine shrimp on the other then bloodworms 1x week

Variety is good.

Just make sure you’re giving them small amounts of each.

I think my Rams would eat until they explode!

New member here, only can talk out of own experience and can povide an opinion. I had the same issue with my Betta. He will not eat pellets...I starved him but finally caved. The last six months he gets solely frozen food.
It is said that the frozen food is too rich and not diverse enough in the long run, only time will tell.
Worms and shrimp are normally gut loaded with vitamins, spirulina is added to brine shrimp, and I add a veggie day as well.
Cost is not bad neither, as I cut the cubes I do not have waste and it lasts me a long time. Betta is happy and does not have any bloat or constipation issue. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, but he enjoys life and health right now.
Curious about experienced member input.

If the gudgeon had another gudgeon might not be so slow and shy. They usually do much better with company.

You're lucky that she eats pellets. Mine never took to dry food. Be careful that the frozen food doesn't turn her off the pellets. That's a risk with feeding frozen foods too often. Good quality pellets will contain all essential vitamins and minerals which frozen food is low in. But frozen food provides variety and is high in protein. A couple of times a week is normally recommended.

Also bloodworms in particular are very rich with high levels of fat & protein and can cause constipation if fed too much.

Would 1 more be enough? I'm pretty close to being fully, maybe even slightly overstocked.

I think that the only way you could really feed frozen too much is if it was the only thing you fed them for months on end. You would most likely see deficiencies in your fish.

Well, it would be better at least. But yeah, i remember seeing your stocking and thinking you were probably right there. If the fish seems fine, probably best just to leave alone for now.

Well she's not shy in that she is all over the tank. I really think she is not a fan of my pellets (northfin 0.5 community) but getting bug bites to her is IMPOSSIBLE. They are like crack to my other fish, especially the rummynose. I checked aquadvisor and 1 more gudgeon puts me exactly at . Hopefully I can get a male and she stays a female. I'm going to feed frozen 2-3 times a week if they remain picky. She's fast for the frozen. I might add frozen cyclops to the rotation to increase variety.

She definitely a female. Maybe try some frozen blood worms with long tweezers if you get overly concerned?

Bettas are carnivores, they do fine with an all meat diet. They don't need the plant matter found in pellets.

I feed all my fish in 4 tanks frozen everyday along with flakes.

I just mix up the frozen everyday, I use 4 different types.

Oh she gets her share of frozen food! I was just worried she's not eating enough prepared as I currently feed frozen only once a week because I was worried that too much frozen wasn't a complete diet. I'll up the frozen feedings to 3x a week and that will allow for the fasting day to remain on track

Things like pellets n stuff...gudgeons are known to be picky with that.

I have been researching peacock gudgeons to add to my tank. Granted, I don't have them yet so others may chime in here. But from what I understand, you can peacefully have 2 females but not 2 males. And a male/female are peaceful to other tankmates until they spawn and then they get more protective and a little more aggressive with other fish who venture near. So if you want a m/f pair, make sure that is ok. Again, I've just been reading and don't have firsthand experience.

So I gave Gudgie a boyfriend (Geon) today. I've found that borderline overfeeding bug bites works along with the frozen. She goes crazy for bug bites like the rest of the fish. My nitrates are still around 10-20 with this feeding schedule on water change day and I change 50%. She loves her new beau and they are swimming all over the tank together. Once again thanks for all the advice
