Can someone please tell me what this is?

bettafairy

Woke up to this little creature this morning. It’s definitely alive, and is sucking on the wall of my aquarium. I’ve never seen this before. Looks like some kind of slug honestly. It contracts from a small spade shape to having a longer tail. Is it harmful? What the heck is it? My tetras keep trying to eat him.

Looks like a leach. Have you been feeding live food or added new plants?

I recently added hornwort I got from Pwilly on here, and I haven’t fed live food for a week, only freeze dried. Is it harmful? I took it out of the tank and put it in a turkey baster to look at it more. What should I do about it?

Just throw it away. They’re harmless but unwanted.

Thank you! Do you think it’s a snail leech? Looking up pictures I’m not too sure

They may. I would remove what I saw though.

Ramshorns tend to be the preferred snail for snail leeches. One shouldn't make a huge dent in the population, especially as they'll be feeding on worms too. Though they are also great parents, carrying the young on their bellies, protecting them and keeping them fed. So if there are more, they will likely breed and produce quite a few. In which case they certainly could cause problems for the snails. Doing as stargirl said, picking them out as you see them, will tend to be enough.
