Can only 2 Green Fire Tetra survive in my tank?

I was buying fish at my lfs and the guy who owns the store is always very nice to me (he has known me my whole life) he usually gift me stuff or gives me discounts. The situation is that I was buying black neons tetra for my 20 gal and one he scooped the fishes 2 rogue green fire tetra got caught in the net, he ended up gifting them to me because they were the last ones in the store and he wasn't ordering more of them for a while.

My question is, will this pair thrive in my tank by themselves?

My tank only has a school of black neons and in the future I'm planning to add another school of tetras (maybe glowlight, lemons or ember), there will never be a centerpiece fish in my tank since that's not the look im after.

My tank doesn't have any hardscape, there's only white sand and stem plants covering the background, so there's plenty of room for swimming but they can always hide between the stems if they really want to.

The black neons don't really school that much, only when I do has movements close to the tank, is like they don't feel the need to school since there's nothing in the tank besides them.

I'm going to end up keeping the green fire tetras because I really don't have any other option, I just want to be prepared for anything that might happen. At the moment they seem chill, they are often apart from each other and my black neons don't pay attention to them.

Edit: I can't buy more of them because they aren't common where im from, in fact I didn't know of its existence till the guy gift them to me

If online ordering is an option, should be able to go that route. Otherwise, keep an eye on them, make sure they don't seem overly stressed out n stuff. Obviously, not ideal having only 2, but rare in life do perfect circumstances happen, adapt and overcome as best you can!

I live in a small country, the aquarium hobby isn’t as advanced as in other places, to order animals online you need to have permits and pay hefty taxes. For the moment the are acting cool, more often than not they apart from each other, exploring the tank and searching for food in the leaves of my plants, they don’t seem stressed.

Fish school when they feel threatened so you really don't want them to school too much...

I would keep them. Give them more hiding places if you think they need it.

I have 2 Golden Dwarf Barbs left over from the original group from years ago. I may add more later because I really like them, but for now they seem fine hanging with the other inhabitants. They don't seem bothered by anything. Very chill. They have plenty of plants to swim and hide in if they want.

I also have 4 glowlight Danios left from that same original stocking. I need to move them because since their numbers have gotten low, they chase constantly. They nip each other, but nobody else yet, but they do chase other fish, not just danios. When I had 10, they didn't even chase each other.

I guess what I'm saying is that it probably depends on the species of fish.

In my experience they will be fine due to the fact that you aren't keeping them with any fish that will harass or stress them.

Some people keep the "approved" group size but tank them with fish that end up causing much stress. This is much more detrimental to the fish long term than being in a group that is supposed to be too small.

Im glad to hear that they are probable going to do all right. They aren't common in my country but still im going to search for more of them, I want to add another school of tetras, I didn't have them on mind but since Ive already got them I might as well try to search more of the same specie.

Thanks guys!!
