Can my betta fish eat these?

Hi there

I am about to start making food for my guppies, but have a betta fish living in the tank with them -
She is very calm, but has a history of eating the guppy food, so I am not sure if the ingredients I will put in would be safe for her to eat.

I am planning to put:
Boiled egg yolk
A few peas
carrots
spinach
bloodworms
A *little* garlic
and maybe some chicken breast
(If you would like to recommend adding and/or remove anything from the recipe, that is appreciated)

All will be blended a food processor, then baked in the oven

Is any of this dangerous for my betta fish to eat, or should put in extra reduced amounts?
Is there anything beneficial to both that I can add to this?

Thank you

Bettas are carnivores, that seems like a lot of veggie matter for a carnivore.

What happens if she eats too many veggies? Or is it just the fact she is a carnivore and it's not good for their diet.

I also forgot to mention that she still will be eating her regular carnivorous food. She only eats around 1 guppy pellet a day when I feed them

The main thing I am looking for is when she will probably eat one of pellets, how dangerous will it be, or will she be fine?

I don't make my own food but I don't see anything on your ingredient list that would be off the table for betta. I'd reduce the veg & increase the red meat tho.

Betta are carnivores & do eat the contents of prey animals gastro system which is at least partly vegetative. Guppies are omnivores & would benefit I think from the extra protein. Maybe a 60-70% protein given that the guppies will nibble veg from algaes, melting plants too.

Again, no nutritionist but I'd go with higher protein to better meet a betta's needs.

Good luck!

Oh she'll be fine. If she can take eating 1 guppy pellet, she'll be fine if she eats a small amount of your homemade food. I've heard of folks seeing their bettas devour zucchini for otocinclus, etc.

I avoid too much greenery in a carnivorous pets' diets like Kiwi the fowler's toad, but I ensure the food has at least some vegetable matter. That's often what a carnivore's prey eats, and they eat the whole kill, not just the parts that we as squeamish, spoiled humans want to eat.

A cow eats grass. If we ate the cow's stomach (that's what tripe is, and it's delicious), then we would, in turn, be eating grass too.

The danger is over feeding & possibly weirdness with elimination & processing enough protein. Nothing in there is exactly bad for betta but the veg may be too much for their digestion to handle & replace protein they *need*.

Think of it this way. My betta snack on snails & wee shrimp. How much of their gastric contents is veg the betta consumes? Very, very little. If you match those natural proportions of high protein to minimal veg I think you may meet the needs of both animals.

Very well said, friend!
