Can I use wood from outside in my tank?

Hi!
I was wondering if it would be safe to use wood from the bushes in my back bush on my property in my tank. I would get rid of the bark and boil it. Would it effect my tank or fish in any way? (I was planning on mostly just wood like thicker twigs, 1/2 inch thick maybe at the most)

If they are fresh green twigs, no. What kind of bush.

Birch trees. There's oak back there too.
I plan using old stuff that has fallen on the ground.

Well if you can find dead trees, go ahead. Live trees, no.
