Can I Use My Display Tank As An Initial Qt?

hello fish fam,

so I just cycled my 40 gallon tank and plan on adding a couple of fish. I plan on getting a qt tank in the future but since I am getting multiple fish at the same time I was thinking of medicating my display tank for the first batch of fish that I will have. is this okay? are there any downsides to medicating your display tank? if you're familiar with Corys 3 meds that's what i'm using. (apI general cure, apI em, ich x)

there is currently no fish in my tank. I just have a cycled tank with subtrate, manzanita wood, and some plants. any tips would be helpful.

long question short: is it okay to use your display tank to quarantine your first batch of fish?

The first fish that go in don't need quarantining. Quarintine is for preventing disease from spreading from new fish to the rest of the fish or to get new fish in good shape before joining the community.

Don't medicate the fish unless you find they have a specific disease -then treat for that one disease.

gotcha! so I have a batch of fish that are getting shipped to me. I can just put them in and if I were to add any other fish into the tank after that I would qt them?

 

If you see a fish that obviously has ich or something, obviously quarantine, but I personally don't.

Ideally yes, you quarintine every fish after your initial group
