he should be okay in a 5G by himself for 2 weeks, be sure to stay on top of water changes though, as it is small and toxins build up fast.

Thanks steed, that's about how long I'll have him in there. I'll do water changes every other day. I've gotten good at cycling a tank. I cyled the 5 gal, no fish, in 14 days with seeded media. Boy that beats a true "new" cycle. I'm wondring if anyones ever kept this fish in this size tank. He is free if I take him (friend moving). The fish is almost 11/2 inches.

Umm... at 11.5" he's not going to be able to turn around in a 5 gallon tank (16" long) If you really want him I'd recommend getting a large rubbermaid tub and putting your cycled filter on that (daily water changes since a filter set for a 5 gal tank won't have a high enough turnover)

    Just a suggestion...

I think he meant 1 1/2 inches. Blue Gouramis don't grow to 11" lol

    Hello Ppate,

I don't see any issues as long as it's temporary housing for two weeks. I'm sure some folks use a 5g for Quarantine.
