Can I Safely Rub Just A Sponge Filter On Qt?

I have a cycled double sponge filter in my 10 gal QT with a sm dwarf gourami. Is this sufficient? I had my top fin power 40 also but even on the lowest setting it was too much for the slow gouramI so I turned it off and stuck it's sponge above the sponge filter in the bubbles.

I don't see an issue for a light bioload. You'll want to put the Topfin back in your main tank though, or take the foam cage off the motor at least so water can go through.

The top fin wasn't cycled just the sponge filter. I was running it as extra filtration but it was stressing the gouramI even on the lowest setting bc it's for a 40 gal lol. If I could find a cheap replacement for the 10 gal I'll do it if needed.

Ok, yeah. The sponge filter should handle the GouramI without issue. The Topfin was too much in the 37?

No I upgraded to a aqua clear 50. I like it better lol

Good upgrade. The Topfin has a block of Carbon in the middle of the foam, so toss the foam (or cut the chunk out and boil the foam if you wish) when you store it. Unfortunately the design of them doesn't allow them to stay cycled without plugging them in.
