Can I Safely Rub Just A Sponge Filter On Qt?

I don't see an issue for a light bioload. You'll want to put the Topfin back in your main tank though, or take the foam cage off the motor at least so water can go through.

The top fin wasn't cycled just the sponge filter. I was running it as extra filtration but it was stressing the gourami even on the lowest setting bc it's for a 40 gal lol. If I could find a cheap replacement for the 10 gal I'll do it if needed.

Ok, yeah. The sponge filter should handle the Gourami without issue. The Topfin was too much in the 37?

Good upgrade. The Topfin has a block of Carbon in the middle of the foam, so toss the foam (or cut the chunk out and boil the foam if you wish) when you store it. Unfortunately the design of them doesn't allow them to stay cycled without plugging them in.
