Can I safely add a dwarf crayfish?

I am thinking of adding a dwarf crayfish to my 29 gal tank who has in it: 1 dwarf gourami, 8 black skirt tetras and 4 guppies. I am concerned that the crayfish will harass my fish, especially the gourami since he likes to hide in the caves and on the bottom where the crayfish would be. Would this be an issue? Should in consider amano shrimp instead? I had a bad experience with the guppies eating my ghost shrimp with my first shrimp attempt. Would a crab be a better choice? If so, what crab?

 

I would check out Amano shrimp. Crayfish are better suited for species only tanks.

 

Dwarf crayfish are super peaceful. I would be concerned about the gourami harassing it. Dwarf gouramis can be terrors to anything small and slow moving. Other than the gourami, it sounds ok.

 

I would not put a dwarf cray in with your gourami. I put trio in my gourami's tank and he killed all but one of them before I could get them out. The surviving dwarf cray lives with my guppies now and is doing great. Each fish has a different personality but in my experience gouramis will kill and eat just about anything they can, my poor crays never stood a chance.

 

I would not add a crayfish for the reasons others listed here. If you want something like a crayfish I would look into vampire shrimp

Those do seem sturdy enough to handle a dwarf gourami.

I would definitely agree with that, they are also far larger than a dwarf crayfish which helps. It is really hard to imagine just how small a dwarf crayfish is until you've seen one.
