Hello. I am kind of new to plants and in my tank i have gravel and i was wondering if it was possible to use some kind of fertilizer to grow a few plants. Or will i have to change my whole substrate.

No, if course not. Plants will grow just fine in gravel.

Look into java moss, Imo this is the best beginners' plant.

May I ask what your light's watts:gallons ratio is?
