Can I put a 20 gallon long on a regular 20 gallon stand?

Hey guys I currently have a 10-gallon on a 20-gallon high stand and I'm looking to upgrade to a 20-gallon or 20-gallon long, but I'm not sure if something bad would happen if I put the 20 long on a 20 high stand. Anything helps!

I wouldn't recommend it if the extra 6 inches of the 20 long aren't supported underneath. Having it hang over would put stress points on the tank probably.

I agree putting the long on that stand would be a bad idea.

However, you could get a strong piece of hardwood and put in under the length of a 20 long and use the stand. Just make sure it's solid and provides full support.

I agree about the hardwood above, but i would recommend putting 3inches over the edge on the left and 3 inches over the edge on the right. split the extra 6 inches into 2 sets of 3 inches so its less stress on one side.

Would plywood work ?

plywood may work if you could find a thick piece, but hardwood would be a lot better

Plywood will warp. Especially if you get it wet. Just get a piece of hardwood.

Plywood won't warp with a tank on top of it. I've done this with 50 gal. I used 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood. I primed and painted it with 2-3 coats of paint. It's been set up for about 8 years this way. The overhang on the ends is a bit more than the OPs .

you can do what you like, worst case it's water on the floor! :)

the 20g stand can hold these standard sizes. (some harder to find than others)

15g standard
25g standard
30g Xtra high

these tanks share the same footprint as the 20g and will fit the stand. I wouldn't recommend rigging something to modify the stand to hold the 20g long. Honestly I dislike my 20 Long. and likely would replace it with a 29g which has a very similar footprint.
