Can I Make A Heater Emit Less Heat?

I’m raising brine shrimp for some African dwarf frogs, and I’ve hatched some cysts. I’d like to move the little shrimp into a .5 gallon pickle jar. I know they need a heater, right now I’m just leaving their container under a heat lamp in my (land) hermit crab enclosure. I’ve got a spare 50W preset heater hanging around, but not a 10 gallon tank. Could I somehow use this heater? I’m guessing no, but could I maybe put insulation around it so it emits less heat into the water?

No you can't on a preset heater. You can on adjustable ones though. The rate it heats is the same, but it will turn off at a temperature of your choice.

I think they heat up the same, just stop at X temp. If you want the heat source away from them or just so they can't burn themselves probably a bigger container or tank would be good. Something like a might work for you.

Hmm I guess I’ll just try to find one of those “betta heaters”, like the ones they put with those horrible little betta cubes? Thanks for the help all!
