Can I feed my betta frozen food?

Hello!
I’ve always fed frozen foods to my bettas because they’re healthy and provide good variety to their diet. My previous betta got sick and passed away mysteriously, and I was told by someone that it sounded like food poisoning which can be a big issue with frozen foods. He wouldn’t eat pellets, only frozen brine shrimp, so that’s what I would feed him. If I remember correctly, I think the freezer may have broken for a couple hours around this time, so they might’ve defrosted and maybe that was the cause for it? I’m pretty sure they were completely sealed as well but it was a while ago. I’ve been really cautious with my new betta and have only been feeding him pellets (different ones to add some amount of variety though). Would it be safe for me to introduce frozen food into his diet? Are there specific brands that might be less likely to cause food poisoning? If it’s supposedly a big issue, I’m surprised I didn’t hear about it before that. Thanks in advance!

He is a carnivore. Feed him frozen worms or brine shrimp or crustaceans. Frozen chopped clams, etc.

But always rinse off the frozen food, thaw it and give it the smell test. If any sign of going rancid dont feed. They go rancid very quickly when thawed like in one hour.

Also keep sealed air tight to avoid oxygen exposure.

Adult brine shrimp are not very nutritious. Newly hatched brine shrimp up to 48 hours old and the size of a grain of sand are very high in protein as it’s the egg sack we are feeding the fish. Nether is a complete meal long term you need to add other things into any fishes diet. Frozen adult brine shrimp are a waste of money.

Live baby brine are not hard to culture.A surprisingly small amount is need per adult fish .
Mosquito larvae are a basic culture anyone can do unless it’s illegal ( tropical countries)

Yes feed frozen. Defrost completely before feeding. Rinse well in warm tank water.
I feed frozen fish eggs and lobster eggs sold a marine fish food to fresh water fish.
The frozen squares food is put into are way way to big for one or two fish. Cut or break the square while frozen and only defrost one small meal at a time.

I have to disagree with this. I thaw enough food for 5 or so days and it works fine. Same with exposure to air. I do keep it refrigerated like I would with human food.

There's no reason food for fish has to be handled with more care than food for people.

I am wondering how someone deduced your fish death to food poisoning. Are there symptoms for that? I have never heard of that.

As long as it passes the smell test ;) Common sense rules.

FDA says for humans to keep most thawed seafood in the fridge for only 1-2 days though. I prefer to keep it frozen since seafood thaws in minutes under running cold water.

We all keep fish our own way . I personally don’t keep any thawed frozen fish for even two days for human consumption. Not in my climate, even the refrigerator is not a guarantee of food safety once thawed out.

StarGirl you don’t go bait fishing much do you ? Some species of wild fish actually prefer rotting bait ( eels) but the majority of high end table fish need very fresh bait.

Rinse the frozen food in a net and then feed.
