My tank is fully cycled, the ammonia cycled in 24 hours and then I did a water change to lessen the nitrates. Can I add my betta now?

Right now I would be hesitate too. Did you use anything else to cycle the tank? Also where are you nitrites at?

Yes what are ur levels? There are ammonia spikes that can happen if something goes wrong or there's a source of something that can spike it up

Ok It could be all cycled up but if you want to be safe wait a week or more to make sure that ONLY the nitrates go up if anything else goes up then it means that your tank is not stable enough for a bioload yet. Do you have a filter? Plants? What kind of Testing equipment do u have?

The only experience I have had with TSS is during fish in cycles with hardy fish in pushing the overstock envelope tanks. Both times it worked out fine, although up until last week I got a trace ammonia reading. (Tank has been running for about two months now. (Other came down with parasite not related to cycle)). TSS for me acted almost instantly it seemed like also. I would wait to see other peoples answers before you act but here is mine.

Bettas are pretty hardy (kept one is death vase for three years), and I think you should be able to add it just fine. Also saw on your profile that you have other tanks that I assume are cycled. Why not add some media or maybe gravel to the betta filter or tank, to almost insta-cycle the tank. Just curious though how big is this betta tank.

If your levels are at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 20 or less nitrate then you are cycled. I waited a day and dosed ammonia up to 2 PPM one last time just to make sure it would cycle it out in 24 hours, when I did my ten gallon with ammonia and TSS. It sounds like you might be ready to add your betta to me.

20 gallons but it is loaded with low light plants. I have 3 rocks. 2 slate and 1 lava rock. My filter is a fluval that comes with carbon, the sponge, and the black pebbles. I do have the master test kit.

I think it's up to you personally right now. However if I were in your place this is what I would do. I would first just test and make sure there isn't anything at a dangerous level. Then I would add either filter media, or decor or substrate from an established tank. Then just add your betta (in his paradise of a tank). Then wait 2 weeks for a WC (or anytbing really) due to TSS.

However it is ultimately up to you. Good luck, and that is going to be one lucky betta.
