Can Fish Heal From Dgd?

My sister brought home a sick dwarf gourami from Petco a few weeks ago.

This thing looked nasty, she said she witnessed the other DG in the tank biting it repeatedly. It had fungus and dark blotches like bruises all over its body and was barely moving.

I've medicated and done what I can and actually the fish has almost completely healed.

I had my concerns that it may be infected with dwarf gourami disease, and am still not totally convinced that it doesn't. But I know there is no cure for dwarf gourami disease, so my question is since the fish has almost completely healed and cleared up can I rule out DGD? Or should I still expect it to die to the disease despite the improvements?

The only thing on her that I have not seen any healing in is a small, pointed, and clear/white "pimple" below her mouth. It is too small to get a clear picture of. If anyone has any leads on what this might be that'd be appreciated.

I've attached pictures for reference. The first one is a recent picture and the second one is approximately 2 weeks after I started treatment, so some healing had already occurred and the fungus was gone at that time.

I doubt it, I'm not sure what viral replication cycle dwarf gourami iridovirus follows, if it follows the lysogenic cycle it is probably incurable. I did find a paper on it though.

I know the disease itself is incurable, that's why I'm asking since this fish is improving, does it actually have dgd?

it does look better, you may have treated the secondary infections but I would still not be sure if it has Iridovirus, I would keep it in quarantine. Viruses that use the lysogenic cycle can lay dormant within an organisms genome and resurface later. I know HIV virus is a retrovirus and uses the lysogenic cycle but I haven't found anything on Iridovirus yet.

Okay thank you, how long should I quarantine for before knowing if it is gdg? My sister has another dg in her tank that she wants to put this one in, but I'm willing to quarantine it for however much longer I should.

Unfortunately, there is no cure or treatment for DGD (iridovirus). There are two things you can do. You could euthanize it or wait until it naturally dies.

Thank you, I know this much. But I'm not sure if the fish even has DGD and although I'm willing to quarantine it for however long needed, I would like to get it into the intended tank. How long does the disease take to kill the fish, or is it only secondary infections that kill the fish ?

Honestly, I don't know. But when I had to move my dwarf gourami to another tank due to leakage, I notice that he was lethargic and would not accept food. I put him in a 5 gallon tank just for the time and the next day he passed away.
