Can fertilizer hurt your fish?

I just started doing live plants and I’ve only done java moss so far. I was thinking some giant hair grass, and then a few others that look cool that google says are hard to kill. I already have a java fern in the tank too. (not really worried about him though). My question is, do I need to worry about hurting my fish when I pick out and use fertilizer? Also does anyone have recommendations for fertilizer? I know I want some liquid fert for the moss but what about the hairgrass? I think it needs tablets? Any other advice would be helpful too.

Also I have ghost shrimp. That’s probably important

 

If you're using fertilizer made for aquariums, it will not harm your fish. You will need to check the exact brand you're thinking of using to be sure it's shrimp safe (it needs to be free of copper).

What brand is best depends on where you live and how much you want to spend. I get excellent results with EasyLife Profito but I don't think it's widely available in the US.

 

I always recommend Nilog Thrive as a good all in one fert. All their products are shrimp safe although they still make one that is ThriveS which is shrimp safe so it must have almost no traces of copper. Which ever one u decide you can start with half doses than what the bottle recommends then observe your inhabitants and if their doing well then slowly up it to the full dose

I use them but some don't feel they are necessary. I stretch them out by cutting them in1/2 and burying. I use flourish root tabs
