Can Ember tetras go in a 5 gallon?

So, I recently made a post about my blue velvet shrimp and why they were dying and the people who gave me advice said that I should establish the tank more for about a month. They also said that it should be done with fish and I was planning on getting chili rasboras for my 5 gallon.
But the problem is, my LFS isn’t selling any chili rasboras. I would have bought them online from a trusted seller but, since I live on the east coast of the US, it’s been cold and snowy. So I don’t want to risk having all of my fish freeze to death. But I do have another option, is that I’ve also looked into ember tetras for my 5 gallon. Although, I’ve been getting mixed opinions on my tank size. So I wanted to get the opinions of the people on fish lore! Also if you have any other opinions on what could go with
my blue velvet shrimp in my 5 gallon, it would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't. Ember tetras are schooling fish and quite active ones, so it's hard to get enough of them in the tank for them to be comfortable, and still give them adequate swimming space.

I'm not sure exactly what your issues have been, but I'm assuming that when you say "that you should establish the tank for about a month", you mean cycle it? I personally would recommend fishless cycling, especially in such a small tank as changes can happen so quickly. There are very few fish that you can keep in a 5-gallon tank, so your options are quite limited.

I wouldn't keep any schooling fish in a 5gal. Shrimp and snails :).

10gal is still a bit small in my opinion for most schooling fish :)!
I keep a large school of galaxy rasbora, and they use up my 25gal no problem.

Not necessarily. Shrimp often do much better in a tank that's been running for several months to build up biofilm. Shrimp graze all day, so they may not do well in a brand new tank, even if it's cycled.

My tank is already cycled. What I meant was establish the tank more before adding more shrimp. I’ve been wanting to add fish to go along with the shrimp, but as you said my choices are limited. Is there any other fish that could go in a 5 gallon with shrimp? By the way if I could get chili rasboras do you think my tank would be too small for them too? I don’t want to put fish in a tank too small for them.

Whoops, sorry. We can't get shrimp here in NZ so I know nothing about them.

I'm not super familiar with chili rasboras, but I wouldn't put any schooling fish in a 5 gallon as they need space to swim and you need to be able to have enough of them for them to be comfortable, which you probably couldn't do in a 5G.

Betta are what everyone puts in a 5 gallon, and the one thing I know about shrimp is that they're usually fine with a betta. You could possibly do male guppies, or endlers would be even better as they are smaller (I'm assuming they're fine with shrimp).

Here's a thread where a whole lot of 5-gallon stocking options are discussed. Stocking List For 5 Gallon Freshwater Nano Aquariums | Aquarium Stocking Forum | 272334
As I said (and many others in the comments of that thread), I would not stock a 5 gallon with schooling fish. Have a look and see what you think.

Do you think a pair or trio of male guppies or endlers could work in my tank?
