Can betta fish eat live ants?

I read online that they enjoy eating ants (which makes sense) but is it safe to feed them to him? There’s a small ant hill in my backyard that has never been treated with pesticides or any chemicals. Would it be ok to get him an ant to snack on?

Yeah, not fire ants. Just those little tiny black ones. I can’t seem to find a reason to not try it other than making sure it doesn’t have chemicals on it. Seems like good protein and a fun hunt for my betta.

Update: My betta’s a wimp. He barely took one look at the little ant before zooming to the other side of his tank to hide under a plant. And he refused to come out until I removed the ant. I think my “Fighting Fish” is a coward SMH
