I have a 40 gallon tank with quite a few barbs because my boyfriend loves their colors and body shape. My question is can say a cherry barb mate with a gold barb, or a rose barb mate with a tiger barb?
The different color morphs of tiger barbs can all interbreed with each other as they are the same species. However as a I understand it they are not capable of interbreeding with say, a rose barb.
I've had cherry barbs with tiger barbs before, and while I had a particularly amorous male cherry barb, he never got any where with the tiger barbs when they went flying off around the tank scattering eggs. He chased with the male tiger barbs but never got any funny looking fry out of it.
